Toyota's humanoid robot earns second Guinness World Record for basketball skills.
Toyota's basketball-playing robot, CUE, has set world records but still needs to improve mobility and human-like skills.
Listen, man, basketball has been a struggle since cavemen decided to throw rocks into holes. We’ve got people in the U.S. spending millions trying to get the ball in that 10-foot hoop, only for it to drop right back out like it’s playing hard to get. The crowd cheers like their hopes are riding on this ball, only to face disappointment night after night. 150 to 250 times, it’s ridiculous!
Now, here comes Toyota with their secret weapon, a robot named CUE. This bad boy can dribble and find balls itself, rolling on wheels for those travel call advantages. CUE isn’t just about shooting hoops, it set a world record for the most consecutive free throws at 2,020 and just nailed another for the farthest shot at 80 feet 6 inches. It's learning and adapting like a natural—first shot a total miss, but after some tweaking, it drained that second one like a pro. Next steps? Bipedal movement and maybe throw in some ref-bashing under its breath. Now that's innovation!
