Toyota to open futuristic city near Mount Fuji this year.
Toyota plans to move 100 residents into its Woven City near Mount Fuji this fall, focusing on technology and sustainability.
Toyota's about to kick off something wild—starting this fall, they're moving in the first 100 residents of Woven City at the base of Mount Fuji. It’ll mostly be Toyota employees and their families to start, with plans to grow to around 2,000 residents. Chairman Akio Toyoda announced this at CES in Las Vegas, stating, "We aim to accelerate the pace at which new technologies can be tested and developed." This city is basically a living laboratory for all the futuristic stuff—AI, robotics, self-driving cars, you name it.
But hold up, it's not open to the public for a couple of years, and Toyoda ain't worried about profit. He said, "Will this Woven City make Toyota any money? Well, maybe not." They're focused on investing in our future instead. Plus, they've got this new software platform called Arene to speed up car development and cut costs, set to roll out this year for next-gen EVs in 2026. It's a whole new direction for them, moving from research to actually producing these tech-filled rides.
