The mayor praised her, saying, "Ms. Itooka gave us courage and hope through her long life."
Living in a nursing home since 2019, Itooka enjoyed simple pleasures like bananas and Calpis. While Japan has a high number of centenarians, with over 95,000 people aged 100 or older, it faces challenges with a growing elderly population. Now, the title of the oldest person in the world passes to Inah Canabarro Lucas, a 116-year-old Brazilian nun.
