Tokyo’s Sakeice O’Choco hot chocolate contains and does not contain sake.
Japan's new O’Choco dessert drink combines chocolate, sweet potato shochu, and clever wordplay, available for Valentine’s Day at Sakeice.

Listen up! Japan's got this new dessert drink called O’Choco, and it’s pure magic. It’s an alcoholic hot chocolate that’s dropped just in time for Valentine’s Day. This baby is coming out of Sakeice, an ice cream shop serving up sake-flavored ice cream. Here’s the kicker: while the drink is called sake in the West, it's really Nihonshu in Japan. So when you hear "sake," it’s actually a broader term for alcoholic drinks.
Now, let’s talk cups. The usual sake cups are called choko, but Sakeice decided to go fancy with an honorific twist—ochoko. The genius part? "Choko" sounds like "choco" in Japanese, which is why they rolled out this chocolate delight. They’re serving it in a bigger cup, probably a sakazuki, because nobody wants to sip on a shot when you could indulge in a luxurious warm chocolate experience. The O’Choco, made with sweet potato shochu and rich 72% cacao chocolate, packs a wallop at 25% alcohol. If you're around Tokyo, hit up Sakeice before the end of February and treat yourself!
