Tokyo court maintains suspended sentence for ex-Nissan executive.
A Tokyo court upheld Greg Kelly's suspended sentence for aiding Carlos Ghosn in concealing income, amid ongoing legal controversies.

A Tokyo court has upheld a suspended six-month sentence for former Nissan executive Greg Kelly, who was implicated in the scandal involving the fugitive ex-CEO, Carlos Ghosn. Both the prosecution and Kelly challenged the 2022 verdict, but the Tokyo High Court dismissed their appeals. Arrested alongside Ghosn in 2018, Kelly has been left to deal with the aftermath as Ghosn famously flew out of Japan hidden in a music equipment box while on bail.
The prosecutors initially sought two years for Kelly, accusing him of helping Ghosn underreport his income - totaling about ¥9.1 billion (around $60 million). Although found not guilty for the years 2010 to 2016, he was convicted for 2017. His lawyer noted that since then, Kelly has returned to the U.S. and skipped higher court hearings. Meanwhile, Ghosn remains a fugitive in Lebanon, with French authorities issuing an international arrest warrant for him related to serious financial misconduct.
