Tokyo couple re-arrested for ¥26 million insurance fraud murder.
A Tokyo couple was arrested for the fifth time, accused of poisoning family members to defraud an insurance company of ¥26 million.

Tokyo police have arrested a couple, Kenichi Hosoya, 43, and his wife, Shiho, 38, for the fifth time over allegations of defrauding an insurance company out of ¥26 million ($167,416) in death benefits. The couple is also linked to a gruesome case involving the murder of multiple family members using ethylene glycol. Previously, they were arrested four times last year for the alleged murders of four relatives.
Between January and June 2018, they are accused of poisoning Kenichi’s relatives: his mother, Yaeko, 68; sister, Minako, 41; and father, Isamu, 73. They collected about ¥26 million by submitting death certificates and insurance claims, all while these deaths were initially deemed natural. But when their 4-year-old daughter, Yoshiki, also died under suspicious circumstances, investigators uncovered the truth. The insurance policies highlight that payouts are void if a beneficiary is found to have intentionally caused a policyholder’s death.
