Sony Japan stops recordable Blu-ray production, no successor planned.

Sony is wrapping up production of recordable Blu-rays, as announced from Japan. Starting in February, they'll no longer make these discs, along with MiniDiscs, MD-Data, and MiniDV cassettes. They made it clear: no successor models are coming. This won’t affect the regular Blu-rays you buy for movies or shows; it's just the blank ones people use for personal recordings. Now, don't forget, Sony played a huge role in Blu-ray history. They kicked things off back in 2000, showcasing the first prototypes, and dropped their Blu-ray recorders in 2006. But they’re not solo in this. Other big dogs like LG, Samsung, and Oppo are also dialing back on Blu-ray players. Plus, this news hits the MiniDisc, launched in ’92 as a sturdy alternative to cassettes and CDs. MiniDisc fans might find it tough to score blank discs, but hey, you can still load music using your smartphone.
