Okinawa faces increased cases of missing elderly individuals with dementia.

The number of people with dementia going missing is on the rise, especially in Okinawa Prefecture, where 118 cases were reported last year—the highest since they started tracking this in 2012. By the end of September this year, there were already 83 cases. Most of these folks were found the same day, but sadly, four were found dead, the highest in at least five years.

As Japan's population ages, support for those with dementia and their families is crucial. Local communities are stepping up, actively searching for solutions to help manage the risks of vulnerable elderly people going missing.
