Hold up! Kumamoto is getting a whole lot of new faces, especially from Taiwan, thanks to TSMC rolling out its first-ever chip factory out there. This fab opened in February 2024, and it’s about to level up with a second one! Now, we’re seeing the Taiwanese population jump from 1,549 in December 2023 to 1,753 by June 2024.

But here’s the kicker—Kumamoto’s public schools are feeling the heat! Since April 2024, they’ve welcomed about 20 Taiwanese students, blasting past last year’s average of just two or three. The education board is on it, making sure these kids get the support they need to thrive in their new home!
