Japan’s wealthy hold record assets of ¥469 trillion, while the majority’s wealth grew only 42.2%, highlighting significant inequality.
So check this out: Japan's wealthy and ultra-wealthy have hit a historic high in assets, reaching ¥469 trillion, which is about $3.1 trillion. Meanwhile, your average Joe's wealth is crawling at a snail's pace. Between 2011 and 2023, the rich saw their fortunes more than double, and the super-rich tripled their assets. But for the rest, who make up about 80% of households, growth was just 42.2%!
This growing divide comes courtesy of stocks, which are like a VIP club only benefiting the upper echelon. And let's not forget the weak yen, which pushed up the value of foreign assets held by the rich in 2023. It's a wild ride out there!
