Japan's Shin-Tomei expressway to open self-driving lanes.
Starting March 3, Japan will test autonomous trucks on priority lanes of the Shin-Tomei Expressway for one year.

The transport ministry is kicking off priority lanes for autonomous vehicles on a 100-kilometer stretch of the Shin-Tomei Expressway, starting March 3. This trial, lasting about a year, is all about tackling labor shortages in logistics by testing self-driving trucks in a controlled environment.
These lanes will stretch from the Surugawan-Numazu rest area to Hamamatsu in Shizuoka. They'll be available from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays. Sure, regular cars can use them, but let’s be real—don’t block those test trucks! The ministry will be monitoring whether the installed sensors can effectively warn about road debris and handle tricky lane merges.
