National wealth is booming! For the eighth year in a row, we hit a record high in 2023, all thanks to rising land and stock prices. Our net assets, which include everything from properties to stocks, climbed to a whopping ¥4.16 quadrillion ($26.8 trillion), marking a 4.1% increase from 2022. Households are loving it, with their net assets reaching a new high of ¥2.97 quadrillion, up 3.7% for the fifth straight year. And it gets better—central and local governments saw a staggering 44.2% increase in their net assets, hitting ¥258.8 trillion. Financial institutions are also riding the wave, expanding their assets by 32.3% to ¥124.9 trillion as stock prices thrive amid the yen's weakness.
