Japan's immigration fees increase April 1.
Starting April 1, Japan will raise immigration application fees by up to 50%, the first increase in over 40 years.

Listen up, folks! Starting April 1, application fees for immigration procedures in Japan are going up by as much as 50%—the first increase we’ve seen in over four decades. The Immigration Services Agency (ISA) says it’s due to rising prices and personnel costs.
Now here’s the deal: If you submit your application by March 31, you’ll still pay the old fees even if your approval comes after the hike. Changing your residence status or renewing your stay? That’ll cost you ¥6,000 ($40) in person, up from ¥4,000. Online's a bit lighter at ¥5,500. So, get those applications in, people!
