So, check this out—Japan’s exports of agricultural, forestry, fishery, and food products just hit a record high for the 12th straight year, totaling ¥1.51 trillion. That’s a 3.7% rise from last year! They really pulled this off thanks to strong sales to the U.S. and other markets, which helped balance out the hit from China’s ban on Japanese fishery products after that Fukushima water release.

The U.S. is now Japan’s top food export destination, bringing in ¥242.9 billion—up a whopping 17.8%. Exports are thriving elsewhere too, with meals like scallops and apples booming. However, China-bound exports fell 29.1% to ¥168.1 billion. Even with all this success, Japan aims for ¥2 trillion by 2025, and they’ve got a lot of work to do, needing an extra ¥500 billion on top of 2024’s results.
