Japanese junior high students create air freshener using stink bugs.
Students in Japan created a pleasant air freshener from stink bugs, showcasing their unexpected positive attributes despite popular dislike.

A couple of years back, I was chilling on my veranda when I spotted a cute little green bug on the clothesline. Just as I’m about to pick it up, my wife yells at me like I’m about to step on a grenade. Turns out, this bug was a warning sign for the stink bug invasion coming to Japan! Climate changes brought these critters out in full force last summer. I couldn’t help but notice a few of them clinging to my office window.
Despite their adorable appearance, stink bugs can let off a nasty odor when threatened. But seriously, after dealing with giant cockroaches and spiders, they felt like a welcome change. The Japanese call them “kamemushi” or "turtle bugs," and honestly, I think that sounds cute. A group of students at the University of Hyogo decided to embrace these bugs, conducting research and even creating a stink bug air freshener that smells like green apples and cookies! Imagine that—turning a crisis into a new fragrance line! Now, who needs to be afraid of stink bugs? They're just misunderstood!
