Japan should protect children without banning social media.

This year, countries are finally waking up to the damage social media is causing. Brazil’s Supreme Court banned X for six weeks over disinformation, while Australia is stepping up to block minors from social networks entirely. Even the U.S. Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy, chimed in, saying these sites need a warning label because they’re linked to serious mental health issues for teens.

But over in Japan? Crickets. You’d think there’d be a major talk about this stuff, especially since suicide is the leading cause of death among teens and young adults there. It’s wild that bullying in schools hit a record high of over 730,000 cases last year — oh, and cyberbullying is on the rise! It’s time for Japan to catch up and start addressing these serious problems.
