Giant rock salt from Aichi town sold on Mercari for ¥420,000.
Higashiura sold two large rock salt blocks for ¥420,000 on Mercari, expected to be displayed in a Fukuoka shop.

The town of Higashiura in Aichi Prefecture just sold two giant rock salt blocks for ¥420,000, which is about $2,690! These hefty pieces, one at 2.5 tons and the other at 3 tons, caught everyone's eye when they were first listed on Mercari in April last year.
They were bought by a guy from Fukuoka who's planning to showcase them in his shop selling Japanese yams. The town had started at ¥300,000 each but faced a little struggle finding a buyer. After dropping the price and getting creative with local promotions, they finally found a match. A town official said, "I would miss the salt blocks, but I’m really happy they now have a place to shine."
