Future of humanity in virtual/AI age?
Marc Andreessen and Steve Bannon reflect conflicting views on Silicon Valley's role in Trump’s coalition amid emerging ideological tensions.

Last month, I had the chance to chat with Marc Andreessen, the venture capitalist who's got his finger on the pulse of the tech scene, and then I followed that up with a talk with Steve Bannon—the classic MAGA figure. Both of these conversations had enough meat on the bones for multiple newsletters, but what stood out was how they highlight a key point I discussed recently: there’s a surface unity in Trump’s coalition around executive actions like anti-wokeness, deportations, and reshaping government, but beneath that, there are some serious philosophical divides. The clash over tech populism might be the biggest of them all, shaping not just current politics but the future. For Andreessen, teaming up with Trumpism is a way for Silicon Valley to break free from the woke progressivism and regulations that the Biden administration wants to impose, especially on artificial intelligence. But for Bannon, this idea of an unfettered Silicon Valley is just a twist on the neoliberal globalism that Trump railed against in 2016 and could lead us down a dark path where the elite strive for a post-human future, making regular folks feel obsolete.
