Emperor Emeritus Akihito is 91.
Emperor Emeritus Akihito, 91, cares for Empress Emerita Michiko, 90, and stays informed through newspapers and television news.
Emperor Emeritus Akihito just turned 91 and spends his days caring for Empress Emerita Michiko, who's 90 and recently broke her thigh. He reads the news daily and keeps an eye on what's happening around him, especially for those in the Noto Peninsula affected by the recent earthquake. His worry grew when the empress had her accident, but after welcoming her home on Oct. 13, she’s been recovering well and can now walk without a stick. They’re back to enjoying their morning and evening walks together.
Akihito still dives into his interests too, like watching documentaries on World War II and researching goby fish at the palace. This man wears his heart on his sleeve; he was heartbroken over the loss of his aunt, Princess Yuriko, who passed away at 101. Now, he’s the oldest in the imperial family. Healthwise, he’s stable following his heart failure diagnosis last year, despite some ongoing issues. Seems like he’s truly dedicated to both his family and well-being.
