Chinese buyer visiting Okinawa Island this summer.
A Chinese woman who claimed to buy Okinawa's Yanaha Island plans to visit it this summer with her company employees.

A Chinese woman who went viral two years ago for claiming she bought an island in Okinawa is planning a visit this summer. Reports say she’s prepping a trip for her company’s employees to Yanaha Island in July or August. While she claims to have snagged the uninhabited island through direct negotiations, a consulting company based in Tokyo actually owns about half of it since 2021.
She says she was drawn to the island because it’s close to her hometown of Qingdao and she wants to keep it natural—maybe develop it if the right opportunity pops up. Her initial claim caused a stir and prompted Japan's government to keep an eye on the situation. It’s wild how a social media post can spiral into international attention, huh?
