This is a pivotal moment for cinema, where technology and art are converging. As the senior programmer for the Women’s Empowerment section at the Tokyo International Film Festival and a filmmaker, I've seen how artificial intelligence is reshaping the film industry. While AI opens doors to thrilling possibilities, it also brings challenges we can't always predict. Remember, technology is just a tool; it's the human spirit behind the lens that gives films their true power.
Back in 2003, my doctoral proposal on digital cinema was seen as “too futuristic.” Fast forward six years, and while working with a Japanese startup creating robots to simulate human emotions, I realized something: AI can mimic feelings, but it can't capture the depth of the human experience. Cinema is an art born from real life, lived experiences, and personal insights, and I truly hope that essence remains intact.
